Hands Off My Money. oil and collage on canvas,
36"x 36", 2015. The image tells the saga of the bankruptcy of the city of Detroit. The painting comments on the cause and effect of the Detroit bankruptcy. In order to pay off Detroit's debts, the city contemplated selling off artworks from Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) and reduced city employees' pensions. I painted and included the images of city workers' protest, art works from DIA, and the desolate sections of the city. The painting also expresses the divide between the rich and the poor in the City. Mandala of Life, acrylic and collage on canvas,

Transform the Unknown: If Danh Vo Were Warhol, oil and collage on canvas, 2017.

In 2013, the young Maria was found in Greece with her adoptive Gypsy family. Police soon assumed that Maria was kidnapped. Police thought the parents could not have a blonde daughter like Maria due to their dark features. Her adoptive parents were later arrested. It became a huge international story. After more than a month of international reports and attention, the authority found out that Maria’s birth parents were also gypsy. Maria's mother gave her to her adoptive parents. This news grabbed extreme amount of attention, while hundreds of children were abducted with little attention. I painted Maria in the center surrounded by some of the media stories and pictures of many other missing children which did not get such media coverage. |
